Early Reading First

Mission Statement

The Rocky Boy Head Start/Early Head Start Program is dedicated to creating a comprehensive, culturally, sensitive, nurturing, safe and healthy environment, in which children, families, and the staff are inspired to reach their fullest potential.  We will support our children and families through individualized quality services provided by professional staff in partnership with parents and local community.

The Rocky Boy Head Start and Early Head Start Program provide education to children from 0 to 5 years of age.  The program utilizes the Creative curriculum as well as curriculum provided by Houghton Mifflin.  Head Start has also begun to focus on School Readiness to ensure that children who leave our program are prepared for their future in education.  The Office of Head Start defines school readiness as “children are ready for school, families are ready to support their children’s learning and schools are ready for children” (2011 Leadership Institute Planner, p. 37).  School Readiness follows five domains which are the Educator’s focus throughout the year, those domains are:

  • Social Emotional Goals
  • Language and Literacy Goals
  • Approaches to Learning Goals
  • Cognition and General Knowledge Goals
  • Physical Well-Being and Motor Development Goals

In writing our specific Readiness goals, we had to articulate the multi-step process and how that process;

  • Reflects the ages of the children, birth to five, participate in the program
  • Aligns with HSCDELF and guidelines of state and local education agencies
  • Includes the five essential HSCDELF domains
  • Encompasses the range of all children served (e.g., are applicable for children who are dual language learners and children with disabilities)
  • Is conducted in active and ongoing consultation with parents participating in the program.
